Curation workshop - Call for application

Applicants need to submit a curatorial proposal related to cinema in less than 750 words. The curatorial project can be about any aspect of cinema like Film History, Culture and Theory, such as:

    • Film Institutions – Studios, Labs, Production/Distribution networks, Exhibition Centres etc.
    • Technological Aspects – Audio and Video Technologies – Celluloid, Video or Digital, Animation.
    • Film Appreciation, Criticism, Theory.
    • Genres, Stars, Movements, Regional Histories.
    • Film’s engagement with other Arts and Art Forms.
    • Film Society Movement.
    • Public Institutions – Film Schools, Archives, Film Development Corporations.
    • Film Festivals .
    • Film Sound – Any technological or aesthetic aspect of sound in cinema.
    • Film Labour – any aspect of human labour in film industry
    • Film Locations & Sites – Set Design.
    • Costumes.
    • Film publications & discourses like film magazines, publicity materials, posters, bill boards etc.
    • Film Reception – Theatre-audiences, fan clubs etc.
    • Gender and representation in Indian Cinema.

The final outcome of the curatorial project can be conceived in any of these forms :

  1. Film package or program
  2. The following formats related to Cinema :
    • Curated art project
    • A research study
    • Compilation of images, texts, sounds, or archival material.

Eligibility Criterion

  1. Applicants have to be a student who is an Indian National.
  2. Students under post-graduate programs in Film Institutes, Media Institutes and Universities enrolled in courses on cinema as major /minor can apply. Any Research fellow affiliated with any University/Institute pursuing research in the field of cinema.
  3. Submission of bona fide certificate along with the application from the Head of the Institution/Head of the Dept. is mandatory.

  • Number of Seats: 20 (5 seats will be reserved for students from SRFTI)

Selection Process

  • Stage One: Evaluation and shortlisting of proposals submitted by applicants.
  • Stage Two: Online Interview with shortlisted applicants. The applicants have to pitch their curatorial idea/project online.

A jury consisting of film scholars and practicing filmmakers will do the final selection of candidates.

NOTE : There is no participation fee in the event for the selected candidates. Basic travel and hospitality of the selected candidates will be taken care of by SRFTI.
